CJ Opens Judiciary Council Retreat

The Judiciary Council, an advisory body of the Chief Justice, is holding a three-day retreat at Victoria Serena Hotel Kigo to discuss regulations on the Inspectorate and Committees of the Judiciary and other developments.

The retreat was opened this morning by the Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny -Dollo. 

In the first session, members were briefed about the new developments in the Judiciary which included more recruitments of Judicial Officers and progress of the construction of the appellate courts, among others.

Members present included; the Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Dr Flavian Zeija, the Attorney General, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Chief Inspector of Courts, Hon. Justice Rubby Opio Aweri, Law Council Representative, Hon. Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja, Hon. Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire and the Director of Public Prosecution, Hon. Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo. Equally present were the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to Treasury, Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana, the Chief Registrar HW Sarah Langa Siu and Ms Grace Akullo from Police among others.

The Council, a creation of the Administration of the Judiciary Act, 2020, is the top organ responsible for advising the Chief Justice on policies for planning and developing the Judiciary to improve the administration of Justice.
